Music forms part of the Arts curriculum. This subject is taught partly as classroom curriculum and as a specialist program. All classes receive a weekly lesson from our music specialist teacher, Natika Jenes. Lessons include exposure to, and exploration of musical instruments, singing, dancing and drama. Students enjoy learning about music in different cultures such as African Drumming. The students are involved in creating and performing musical compositions. This often includes the use of technology such as Garage Band.
The School has a choir which performs at events like school assemblies, Panton Hill On The Hill Festival and the Wattle Festival. They have recently performed for residents at the Kerala Aged Care Home, St Vincents Aged Care Home, Panton Hill Living and Learning Centre and Panton Hill Carols by Candlelight.
An annual concert on stage at the Panton Hill Community Hall, late in term four, showcases aspects of our Performing Arts Program to an audience of parents and visitors. Panton Hill Has Got Talent is held each year in late Term 3. Acts are selected to perform at the On The Hill Festival.
Private instrumental music lessons are also available. Each Thursday an instrumental teacher, Mr Ewan Cloonan visits and takes lessons in guitar and ukelele. These lessons are very well attended. A recent gig at the Panton Hill Hotel was a great success with the students having the experience of playing to a sell-out crowd where parents could celebrate the great achievements made.
