Our history

  • Kingstown School opened on 1st May 1865.
  • First Head Teacher Henry Brown.
  • 1st September 1871 Panton Hill School 1134 opened. Henry Edelman was Head Teacher. Enrolment of 29 (14 boys, 15 girls).
  • Became a State School on 1st January 1873 when Education Department was established.
  • 1874 Panton Hill School moves to present site.
  • 1880 start of unbroken line of Smiths and direct descendants going to Panton Hill. Finishes in 2005 when Stephanie Smith Graduates.
  • 1888 enrolment was 47.
  • 1894 enrolment was 82. Smiths Gully school building relocated to Panton Hill site to help ease overcrowding.
  • 1909 enrolment was 74.
  • 1909, 1910 and 1911 Panton Hill wins the ANA Garden Prize for school gardens.
  • 1913 original school site extended by 1 acre 2 roods and 4 perches!!
  • 1915 Local Hall used as a classroom.
  • 1922 Marjorie Smith last year at PH school.
  • 1922 Maud Rattray Commemorative Bell erected.
  • 1939 bushfires in the area. PH Fire Brigade formed. School Bell used to alert Community.
  • 1955 new classroom added.
  • 1958 Electricity was turned on for the first time at a big ceremony at the oval in May 1958
  • 1962 major bushfires in the Panton Hill Area new classroom added.
  • 1970 new classroom added.
  • 1971 Centenary of School celebrated enrolment 125 with a staff of five.
  • 1990 first computers at PHPS.
  • 1993 fire refuge / two classrooms built.
  • 1996 PHPS celebrates 125th birthday
  • 1998 major upgrade to the school three classrooms, administration area and Art room.
  • 2005 School Rotunda erected.
  • 2006 Interactive whiteboards installed in all classrooms.
  • 2011 New BER Building (2 Classrooms & new Library)
